The Jatiya Sangsad Thursday passed the Cox’s Bazar Development Authority Bill-2015 in an amended form to ensure a planned development of Cox’s Bazar as a tourist city. The bill was passed with voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Earlier, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain moved bill in the House.
The cabinet approved draft of the ‘Cox’s Bazar Development Authority law on July 6, 2015, saying the proposed law will ensure development of the tourist city under a master plan and regulate the ongoing rampant construction.
The bill proposed formation of a 15-member Cox’s Bazar development authority comprising a female member, the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and mayor of Cox’s Bazar and 11 non-permanent members. The government will appoint its chairman and three permanent members. On February 16, 2016 chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Public Works Ministry Alhaj M Dabirul Islam submitted the report on the bill in the House.
